How I Practice Self-Care as a New Mom

The transition to motherhood has most certainly been a wild ride! Some days are rewarding, some are hard, and others feel extremely isolating. But at the end of each day, I am proud of taking motherhood head-on.

Get Ready

Every single day I take time to get myself ready. I wash my face, brush my teeth, and moisturize immediately. You need self-care so you can best serve your children. So freshen up and put on some clean clothes.

Spend Time in Scripture

Spending five minutes a day with the Lord can change your entire mindset for the day. Every day we are given grace, so taking a few minutes each day to be thankful for where you are and what you have, can change you. As mothers, there are going to be times when we lose our bananas. And we will need to know how to give that same grace God gives us to our children.

Get Outside

Going on a walk, stopping by the park, enjoying the beach… however you like to enjoy outside, you need it! Getting some fresh air and sunshine is great for your self-care. Plus, getting your little ones outside is great for burning some energy.

Make a Beverage

I am not a drinker, but I will make myself some type of beverage treat during the day! A second tea for the day, a homemade pink drink, a mommy mocktail with dinner. It is a nice little refresher and such a minimal thing to do for your self-care!

Check on my Fellow Mom Friends

Becoming a mom is tough, so you NEED women around you who are in similar walks of life. They will be there for you on your tough days and cheer you on when you accomplish something new. So I try to check in with my momma friends often; that way, they know I am there for them when they are having tough days.

Shower Daily

I did not know how life-changing this would be until I started doing it in month three. Before, I would go every other day. Sometimes I see moms on the internet go several days. Life is busy but take 5 minutes to rinse off your body at the end of the day!
