Happy Wednesday peeps! If you haven’t heard the news… I’M ENGAGED! Eek, it still doesn’t feel real, even a month later! But I am excited to be sharing my first Wedding Wednesday post on the blog. It’s funny how over the years of blogging I have envied and obsessed over other bloggers’ wedding posts… and now I am here! I will be sharing every aspect of planning our wedding on the blog beginning with this one, our proposal!
I must say, this post is lengthy!
Our family and friends will tell you Kyle and I have a storybook relationship… and I have to agree lol! Kyle and I met 3.5 years ago on a spur of the moment trip to Calabash, NC. I was visiting with family and Kyle tagged along with one of my family friends. We were introduced, exchanged some ruthless jokes, and then spent the remaining 12 hours glued to each other’s hips! After a dreamy day of enjoying each other’s companies, we laid under the stars planning out our future life together!
So cheesy and most people say we are crazy because “love, at first sight, doesn’t exist” but I can assure you that God will place your person in your life at the perfect time. The second I met Kyle I felt like a piece of me I never knew was missing was suddenly full. We then went on to conquer a seven-month deployment (hardly knowing each other), bought a trailer and moved in together after deployment, spent 2020 cooped up in our tiny home, and then irrationally picked up our lives and moved to a place we had never been.
Despite all the wild hills life was throwing at us, we have created a relationship that I truly admire and respect. We share an abundance of love, deep belly laughs, cherish our quality time together, and of course… I share every drink with him… now that’s true love lol.
With how Kyle and I initiated our relationship, we both knew without a doubt that we would get married one day. The day we met he told his mom he met the girl he would marry and my mom was already annunciating “Alexis Opal” as if I had already taken his name lol.
After establishing our life as a couple, we began talking about getting engaged. TBH we did everything completely backward… we bought a house together (our trailer), got some fur babies, and merged all aspects of our lives before even crossing the wedding discussion bridge. So the last year or so, I was lowkey reminding Kyle he needed to put a ring on my finger. If you are close to us, you know that everyone had one plug a day to remind Kyle it’s time lol!
We shared ring visions and discussed how I would love to see our proposal happen and let me tell y’all….. Kyle did not mess around and fully understood the assignment!
I had a slight feeling that Kyle may be getting ready to pop the big question….(after finding some evidence LOLOLOL and no it wasn’t the ring)! I had no idea when or how he was going to pull it off… I was literally clueless until he got down on one knee!
So we planned a trip to Big Bend National Park the week prior to Christmas. We’re very huge Star people and planned to go to the McDonald Observatory. I thought Kyle was going to pop the ? there, if he did it on that trip.
Well the day prior, we had an action-packed day of hiking and exploring the “must-see” activities. This included The Window Trail as our last stop at sunset. This was his original plan to pop the question. We hiked out and quickly realized it was an ehh stop and would rather watch the sunset at a lookout we found earlier in the day.
So, we hit the road and made it to the lookout with just enough time to get comfy to watch the sunset. We were enjoying the views, capturing some selfies, and just enjoying each other’s company. Then Kyle suggested we take a photo, I am all about photos, and for him to suggest one.. I was all for it!
Kyle grabbed my phone and marched his way over to a couple at the front of everyone to capture a photo with nobody in the background. Still clueless as ever, Kyle puts the phone on record and whispers to the guy to keep it on record. The guy promptly switched to photo and clicked away.
After capturing some photos, I was happy and ready to return to our chairs. Kyle quickly snatched the phone from my hand, switched to record, started recording, and handed the phone back. The guy capturing the photos asked if we wanted to record and that’s when Kyle grabbed my hand to say “I know you’ve been wanting this question for a long time…” Then got down on his knee and the boom here we are an engaged couple. I am still crying happy tears cause I am so proud of Kyle’s confidence!
At the end of the day, all I asked of Kyle was to do it somewhere sentimental and meaningful for who we are as a couple and he surpassed that request! Kyle if you are reading this… your heart is bigger than I could ever imagine and I truly admire the man you are and the husband you will be!
