TRAVEL SERIES: HILTON HEAD, SC

Happy Tuesday Friends! I am super excited about this Tuesday because…. DRUM ROLL.… It’s MY FIRST TRAVEL TUESDAY POST! I’ve been so excited to start this series of posts because I have lots to share with y’all about so many fun places! I chose to do a series because after I began planning my posts, I realized I have enough information to share every Tuesday for the next THREE months! Many of the places I visited were quick weekend trips, but who doesn’t love a good weekend trip. To give you some insight on what I’ll be sharing in these travel posts. I will be talking about; most importantly the food I ate, things there is to do for free or cheap, and where to get some awesome photos. So, you’re probably wondering where I’ll be taking you in this first post and I decided to start at my most southern location. I have been daydreaming of the beach with all this cold weather and figured it would be fun to share a little sunshine from Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Where to Eat:

Frosty Frog Café

OH MY GOODNESS! This place was my favorite part of this entire trip. It’s a beach-themed bar that’s part indoor, part outdoor with a beach setting outside (sand and all). I stumbled upon this restaurant in another blog post. They have over 20 different types of daiquiris, all ranging in different alcohol proofs. Our table each ordered a flavor and shared a sip so we could try the entire menu. They are all so yummy but the Jump Start and the Avenger were my favorites. Not only were the drinks good, but their pizza was also yummy as well.

Ducks Donuts

This is where I actually discovered Ducks Donuts. We were looking for a donut place and just so happened to stumble upon Ducks. I instantly fell in love which is why they will appear in multiple blog posts. If you’ve never been to a Ducks, they’re special because they make the donuts as you order them, and they have some of the best flavors (Maple Bacon). It’s great because you get a warm donut, a nice cup of coffee than can head off to sightsee.

Cowboy Brazilian Steakhouse

This is a more upscale restaurant, but a good place to go with your significant other on a date night. You have access to a full salad bar, and they bring a variety of meats around and carve them tableside. They also bring a grilled pineapple that’s been tossed in cinnamon around and I think that alone is worth your entire meal. This is a great alternative if you’ve had enough seafood on your vacation already.

Things to Do:

Beach days

This vacation was mainly to just hang out on the beach. We stayed in a condo just across the street from the beach, so we were able to walk back and forth to the beach all day. I’m a beach lover so I would spend the majority of the day out at the beach walking around or looking for seashells. If you go out during low-tide you can find some awesome things!

Rent Bikes

Hilton Head is a fairly large island, but the majority of the places to stay are within walking distance of the beach. So, we rented a bike to ride around the resort we were staying at or to ride on the bike since the beach is mainly level. Riding around the resort was beautiful from all of the greenery. Or we would bike up to the ice cream shop during our breaks from the beach.

Putt-Putt

Playing a game or two of putt-putt I feel is almost a classic for any beach vacation. We went to the Pirate’s Island Putt-Putt course. Such a cute place to take kids who love pirates, they put a lot of detail into the two courses they have. I ended up winning another game, so we came back for a second night to play the other course.

Coligny Beach Park

This is a fun little park near the oceanfront where you can go to walk around, watch the sunset, ride bikes. It is a great area to go to after you’ve had dinner to walk around with your significant other and watch the sunset. Or a great spot to get some family photos taken.

Where to Stay:

Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort

We stayed in a condo that was located at the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort. This was a beautiful resort that was composed of condos and small houses. They tried to build around the greenery that was already in the area making it feel like your condo is a part of nature. We were just a quick walk to the beach, had a pool right outside and had a nice screened in porch to hang out on at night.

Hilton Head was a super quick trip for a relaxing weekend. The quiet atmosphere on the island made it such a successful weekend. I know there is so much more to do on the island like shopping, tons of golf, and I’m sure other hidden gems I don’t know about. But hopefully, this a good resource when you begin to plan your trip.
