It happens, there’s always that one chair that gets covered in random items you say are going to get put away later. I feel like that is just life! As you continue to grow life just happens; you’re on the go more often and when you’re home you want to relax but know chores need to get done. Your home doesn’t have to be perfect, which means you can let things slide sometimes! If you are like me, clutter can stress you out. So, each day I do the five following steps to quickly declutter the house.
Make the bed every morning!
This is the first step in making sure the house doesn’t feel cluttered. It is such a simple step and can be done first thing in the morning to get it out of the way. Even if the rest of them bedroom is a mess, when walking past a fresh made bed it is appealing to the eye.
Clean up the pile of shoes by the door!
Whether it is just you or a whole family in the household shoes can pile up so quickly. Line them up nicely near the door, keep them in a bin or even keep them in a closet. This helps clean up the entryway and doesn’t make you feel overwhelmed when you walk in the door.
Wash any dishes in the sink!
This one is tough for me; dishes are my least favorite chore! But having a clean sink is such a great feeling, especially when it comes time to cook. Even if you just rinse them off and put them in the dish washer or you have them in the dish strainer, it looks less chaotic in the kitchen.
Fold the blankets on the couch and fluff the pillows!
This is another super simple step and very aesthetically pleasing in my opinion. Quickly folding your blanket and throwing it over the back of the couch and then fluffing the squished pillows from movie night can help revive your tired-looking living room. Again, having a clear focal point in the room allows for things to slide!
Sweep the floors!
This step may not be for everyone but having only hardwood floors in your house makes this step key! Hardwood floors are so easy to get dirty and so easy to feel every crumb. Taking the broom or shark through the house quickly helps keep the floor clean and less things to step on with no shoes!
While we may not have our lives entirely together, we can at least make our house look somewhat like it’s put together. Cleaning up a few small things around the house can make a significant difference. Not only does it help make the house look clean but it also helps ease the stress of walking into a messy house.
